VA Updates: Los Angeles office closing

The VA tries to keep people well informed of any changes that might affect military personnel or veterans who are currently applying or plan to apply for benefits. One change that is about to take place is the closing of the Los Angeles Eligibility Center.

In order to get a Certificate of Eligibility processed there was a Western U.S. eligibility center and an Eastern U.S. eligibility center. Depending on where in the United States the veteran lived, they would send there request to one of these eligibility centers. The VA has recently posted information that there will no longer be two service centers. The Los Angeles Eligibility Center will be closing effective January 1, 2006.

Any veteran who is requesting a Certificate of Eligibility must now send there completed forms with supporting documentation to the Winston-Salem Eligibility Center in North Carolina. If you have already mailed your information to the Los Angeles Eligibility Center then they should receive your request in time. After January 1,2006 they will no longer be accepting any requests.

The VA still encourages lenders to use the ACE program in order to process requests for a Certificate of Eligibility before they mail a paper copy request to the Winston-Salem Eligibility Center.
